THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to play guitar online

01

Pick a sound and tuning

Choose acoustic, nylon, electric, 12-string, bass or ukulele, then a tuning and a capo position if your song needs one.

02

Fret and strum

Tap a chord shape or press frets on the neck, then drag across the strings on the body to strum, or use the keyboard: Space strums, Z to N pick the strings.

03

Play along and record

Load a progression, choose a strumming pattern and tempo, press Play, and record what you play to get tab you can copy, plus WAV and MIDI files.

A guitar that sounds like one

Real string sound

Every note is a plucked string modelled in your browser, with the body resonance of an acoustic or nylon guitar, or a pickup, amp and cabinet for electric tones from clean to metal.

Natural strumming

Drag fast for a loud, tight strum or slowly for a soft one. Strum near the bridge to palm-mute, use two hands on a touchscreen, bend strings by dragging across them and slide along them.

Chord library

Major, minor, sevenths, sus, add9, diminished, augmented, power chords and more in every key, from open shapes to barre chords up the neck, with finger numbers on each diagram.

Progressions and patterns

Pop, blues, jazz, rock, reggae, folk and more, transposed to any key, played with down-up strums, chucks, reggae skanks or Travis fingerpicking over a metronome, with swing.

Tunings, capo and scales

Drop D, DADGAD, open G, open D, half-step and whole-step down or your own tuning; a capo from 1 to 12; any scale, mode, pentatonic or blues scale drawn on the neck.

Record to tab

Everything you play is written as guitar tab with hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends and palm mutes. Copy it as text or download a WAV recording or a MIDI file.

Tips for playing a virtual guitar

Strum with your wrist

On a phone, hold a chord with one hand and drag across the strings with the other. The faster the drag, the louder and tighter the strum.

Use the keyboard

Number keys pick chords from the chord bar, Space or J strums down, K strums up and L plays a muted chuck. Hold Shift to palm-mute.

Find a song's chords

Fret notes on the neck and the chord name appears above it. Turn on a scale to see which notes fit a key.

Online guitar FAQ

Is this online guitar free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how long you play, record or export.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The sound is generated in your browser and your chords, settings and last recording are saved in this browser's storage. Exports are made on your device.

Does it use AI?

No. The strings are a physical model of a plucked string, the chord shapes are found by searching the fretboard for playable fingerings, and the chord names come from music theory rules.

How do I strum on a phone?

Drag across the strings on the body. Hold frets with another finger at the same time, or tap a chord shape first. Turning the phone sideways gives a wider neck.

Can I play with my computer keyboard?

Yes. Z, X, C, V, B and N pick the strings, Space or J strums down, K strums up, L mutes, number keys choose chords from the chord bar, and the arrow keys move around the fretboard. The full list is in the Keys tab.

How does the tab recording work?

Press Record and play. Each note is placed on a grid of sixteenth notes at the current tempo, strums become chords, and hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends and palm mutes are marked. Copy the tab as text or download WAV or MIDI.

Can I tune my real guitar with it?

Use the Tuner tab to play a steady reference tone for each string and tune by ear. It doesn't listen to your guitar through the microphone.

Which tunings and instruments are included?

Standard, drop D, DADGAD, open G, open D, open E, open C, half-step down, whole-step down and drop C for guitar, plus custom tunings; four-string bass tunings; and ukulele in standard, low G, D and baritone tuning.
