What Topaz does, how it fits in the Topaz Labs model lineup, and why teams reach for it.
Topaz is a super-resolution and enhancement model from Topaz Labs, available through the WaveSpeedAI REST API. Topaz API on WaveSpeedAI — Topaz Labs image enhancement models as REST endpoints: Sharpen for lens and motion blur, Denoise for grain and high-ISO noise, Restore for dust and scratches on old photos, and Lighting for exposure, white balance and color.
Send a JPEG or PNG and get back an enhanced image: sharpen soft or out-of-focus shots, clean up noisy low-light photos, remove dust and scratches from scanned prints, or fix exposure and color temperature. Each endpoint takes the image, a model choice and an output format, on the same REST prediction flow as every other model on WaveSpeedAI.
The Topaz family on WaveSpeedAI ships 17 REST endpoints covering Video-Tools, Upscale-Video, Upscale-Image, Image-Tools workflows. Each variant carries its own pricing, parameter knobs, and example outputs — pick the one that matches your input modality and production constraints, or call several from the same API key to compose multi-step pipelines.
Run Topaz through the same API key, billing account, and rate-limit envelope you use for the other 1,000+ AI models on WaveSpeedAI. No separate vendor setup, no per-provider SDKs, no per-vendor rate-limit envelopes — one integration covers everything from text-to-image and text-to-video through audio synthesis, 3D generation, upscaling, and editing.

How to
How to use the Topaz API
Four steps from signup to a finished generation. Full Python, Node.js, and cURL examples are in the API section below.
- 01
Get an API key
Sign up for a WaveSpeedAI account and copy your API key from the dashboard. New accounts come with free starter credits — enough to run the playground a few dozen times before billing kicks in.
- 02
Submit a prediction
POST your input as JSON to https://api.wavespeed.ai/api/v3/topaz/image/sharpen. The endpoint returns a prediction id immediately — generations are async so you don't hold an open connection during inference.
- 03
Poll for completion
GET https://api.wavespeed.ai/api/v3/predictions/{request_id}/result. Return outputs on completed; stop with an error on failed, cancelled, timeout, or deleted; continue polling for every other status.
- 04
Read the output URL
Once status is "completed", read the URL from data.outputs[0]. The URL points to your generated media on the WaveSpeedAI CDN — image, video, audio, or 3D file depending on the Topaz variant you called.
Use cases
What you can build with Topaz
Common workflows developers and creators use the Topaz API for.
Fix lens blur and motion blur
topaz/image/sharpen brings back crisp detail in soft or out-of-focus photos, with variants for lens blur, motion blur, refocus and natural-looking sharpness.
Portraits and wildlife
The sharpen endpoint has variants tuned for portraits and for wildlife, so faces, fur and feathers get detail without halos.
Clean up low-light and high-ISO shots
topaz/image/denoise removes grain and high-ISO noise while keeping detail, with Normal, Strong and Extreme strengths for lightly to heavily degraded images.
Restore old and scanned photos
topaz/image/restore removes dust, scratches and damage from vintage prints and film scans for family archives and digitization projects.
Correct exposure, white balance and color
topaz/image/lighting balances images shot in poor light, corrects color temperature, and can add natural color to black-and-white photos.
Batch cleanup for catalogs and user uploads
Run marketplace listings, real-estate photos or user-submitted images through the endpoints they need in an automated pipeline, with no desktop software or manual editing.
Tips
Tips for prompting Topaz
Practical advice for getting better outputs from Topaz — drawn from the patterns that work across upscaler models in production pipelines.
- 01
Fix noise before sharpening
When a photo is both noisy and soft, run Denoise first and Sharpen second. Sharpening a noisy image makes the grain stronger along with the detail.
- 02
Match the sharpen variant to the blur
Use the lens blur or refocus variants for out-of-focus shots, the motion blur variant for camera shake or moving subjects, and the portrait or wildlife variants when faces or animals are the subject.
- 03
Start with the gentlest strength
Try Normal noise reduction first and move to Strong or Extreme only when grain is still visible; heavier settings smooth fine texture.
- 04
Keep PNG for multi-step pipelines
Set output_format to png when the result goes into another step such as an upscale or a second fix, so each pass does not add JPEG compression.

Topaz vs alternatives
When to pick Topaz over similar models on WaveSpeedAI.
Topaz vs Topaz Photo AI (desktop)
Topaz Photo AI is a desktop app that runs on your own computer. The Topaz API endpoints run in the cloud and are called over REST, which suits servers, batch jobs and apps that process images for their own users.
Topaz vs Image Upscaler Collection
The Image Upscaler Collection is about raising resolution. The Topaz endpoints fix the image itself: blur, noise, damage and lighting, and are often run before or alongside an upscale.
Topaz vs Self-hosted open-source models
Open-source denoise and restoration models need your own GPUs and maintenance. The Topaz endpoints are hosted, priced per image, and share one API key and billing account with every other model on WaveSpeedAI.
