UUID Generator FAQ

Is this UUID generator free?

Yes, with no account. Generate up to 10,000 IDs per click, as often as you like.

Are the IDs random enough?

Yes. They come from your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits, so a repeat is practically impossible.

Which version should I use?

v4 when you just need a unique ID. v7 (or ULID) for database keys: they start with the time, so new rows land at the end of an index. v1 only when a system asks for it.

Is a GUID the same as a UUID?

Yes. GUID (globally unique identifier) is another name for a UUID. Tick Uppercase and Braces for the {XXXXXXXX-…} form some tools expect.

Are v7 IDs in order?

Yes. IDs made in the same millisecond use a counter (RFC 9562 method 1), so a batch is in strictly increasing order. ULIDs do the same.

What does the decoder show?

Whether the ID is valid, its version and variant, and for v1, v6, v7 and ULIDs the time it was made, in UTC and your own time zone.
