What is a life-like cellular automaton?

A grid of cells where each cell lives or dies depending only on how many of its eight neighbours are alive. The rule is written as B (birth counts) / S (survival counts).

Which rules can I try?

Any rule with births from 1 to 8 neighbours and survival from 0 to 8, including Classic Life, HighLife, Seeds, Day & Night, Life without Death, Maze, Coral, Diamoeba, 2×2, Morley, Anneal and Replicator.
