THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to make a storyboard

01

Add your shots

Add a panel for each shot. Upload, paste or drop a picture, or sketch the frame with the brush and shapes.

02

Describe each shot

Choose the shot type and camera move, set the duration and write the action and dialogue. The episode runtime updates as you type.

03

Export or generate

Download a print-ready PDF, a PNG board or a CSV shot list, or copy a shot as a prompt and paste it into a video model.

Shot types and camera moves

The options on each panel, in plain words. They also go into the prompt when you copy a shot.

Shot types

Wide
Shows the whole place and where the characters are. Good for the first shot of a scene.
Medium
Frames a character from about the waist up. The everyday shot for conversations.
Close-up
Fills the frame with a face. Use it for reactions and the big moments of an episode.
Over the shoulder
Looks past one character's shoulder at the other. The classic way to shoot two people talking.
Insert
A tight shot of an object or a detail, like a letter, a phone screen or a ring.

Camera moves

Static
The camera does not move. Calm, and easy to cut with other shots.
Push-in
The camera moves slowly toward the subject to build tension or focus.
Pan
The camera turns left or right from one spot, to follow action or reveal the room.
Tilt
The camera turns up or down from one spot, for example from shoes to face.
Orbit
The camera circles around the subject. Dramatic for reveals and turning points.
Handheld
A slight natural shake, as if the camera is held. Feels urgent and close.
Tracking
The camera travels with a moving character, beside, in front of or behind them.

Turn your storyboard into video

When the board is ready, each panel can become a clip: use the panel picture as the first frame of an image-to-video model and paste the shot's prompt. On WaveSpeed AI you can generate the shots of your short drama with these models:

Storyboard Maker FAQ

Is this storyboard maker free?

Yes. Every feature is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many boards you make.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Pictures, sketches and text stay in your browser. The board is saved on this device as you work, and exports are made on your device too.

Can I make a vertical 9:16 storyboard?

Yes. Vertical 9:16 is the default, made for short dramas and phone video. Switch to 16:9 or 1:1 at any time; the frames and the exports follow.

How is the episode runtime calculated?

It is the sum of the durations of all shots. Shots without a duration count as zero, and the board tells you how many of them there are.

What does Copy as prompt do?

It writes the shot as a plain text prompt: the shot type, the camera move, the frame shape, the action, the dialogue and the duration. Paste it into a text-to-video or image-to-video model. Notes are for your team and are left out.

What do the PDF, PNG and CSV exports contain?

The PDF is a print layout with several panels per page in A4 or US Letter. The PNG is the whole board in one picture. The CSV is the shot list for a spreadsheet, with the total runtime.

How do I continue on another computer?

Use Export JSON. The file holds the whole board with its pictures. Open the tool on the other computer and use Import JSON.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Panels stack in one column, you can sketch with your finger, and the arrow buttons reorder shots where dragging is not practical.
