Is my secret or private key uploaded?

No. Signing uses your browser’s built-in cryptography and nothing is sent anywhere.

Which key formats can I use?

A text, base64, base64url or hex secret for HS algorithms; a PKCS#8 PEM (BEGIN PRIVATE KEY), an RSA PEM (BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY) or a private JWK for the others.

How long should an HS256 secret be?

At least 32 random bytes (256 bits). The random secret button makes one of the right length for the algorithm.

Should I use these tokens in production?

Use them for testing and development. Production tokens should be issued by your authentication server, with keys kept in a secrets manager.
