How Do I Access GPT Image 2 via API?

Overview

To access GPT Image 2 through WaveSpeedAI, create a WaveSpeedAI key and POST a prompt to /api/v3/openai/gpt-image-2/text-to-image with bearer authentication. Save the returned prediction ID, then retrieve the finished output through the result API. This is the current WaveSpeedAI text-to-image route, not a universal OpenAI endpoint or an image-editing path.

Keep the key on your backend and send JSON with the prompt and any supported aspect_ratio, resolution, quality or output_format options shown on this route’s page. The model page, rather than the generic quickstart, defines valid values and current access. Start with one small authorized test prompt and preserve its prediction ID for troubleshooting. If users need to edit an existing image, choose a documented edit route instead of adding an unsupported reference field to this text-to-image request.

Run a few examples from your own product: a product visual, a text-heavy creative and a difficult composition. Record accepted-output rate and final charge for those jobs. The name “GPT Image 2” alone does not determine whether it is the best fit for your brief.

After the first successful task, add pending and failed states and move approved results into your own asset store. That closes the loop from API access to a usable application feature.

Treat the first result as an integration check rather than a quality verdict. Repeat the test with several approved prompts and inspect resolution, text rendering and composition while holding route settings constant. This keeps software behavior separate from creative evaluation and gives the team a clearer release decision.
