How Do I Integrate an AI Image API into My App?

Overview

Integrate an AI image API in four steps: keep the key on your server, prepare the route-specific input, POST one prediction, then retrieve and store the result by prediction ID. Your front end should call your own backend, not expose the provider key or assume every model accepts the same parameters.

Choose the input route before coding the form. Text-to-image starts from a prompt; an edit flow also needs a source image. For a local file, WaveSpeedAI’s current upload path is ticket POST /api/v3/media/uploads, signed PUT of bytes, then the returned download_url in the model request. FLUX.2 Flex Edit, for example, requires prompt and images. Record permission to use the image and reject unsupported files before task submission.

Treat generation as an application job. Create a local job ID, submit once, persist the provider prediction ID, then poll the result or connect a supported callback path. Distinguish a failed inference from a network timeout after submission, and check the recorded task state before deciding whether to retry. On completion, copy the output into your own asset pipeline and attach moderation and review state.

Ship a small end-to-end slice before offering many models. One route with reliable authentication, status, error reporting and storage is easier to support than a broad picker whose outputs the app cannot trace.
